  4. Welcome to Backup Fugue for DOS, the Premier backup program for PCs!
  5.  
  6. Power failures, hardware or software problems, or user mistakes can all result
  7. in data loss. Knowing you have an up to date backup means you can get things
  8. up and running normally in a short space of time.
  9.  
  10. Until now, keeping a backup up to date meant juggling with in increasing
  11. number of backup sets, while restoring files meant restoring obsolete copies
  12. of files from older backup sets just so you go on to restore from the later
  13. backup set.
  14.  
  15. With Backup Fugue, all this has changed. You take a full backup only once.
  16. After that, Backup Fugue backs up only files which have changed. All files are
  17. written to the one backup set, making it easy to find them later. You can keep
  18. multiple versions of files if you desire, and obsolete files are deleted from
  19. the backup and the space reused.

  21. Browse the Backup Master Index tree to see what is on your backup. Fine tune
  22. the selection process by masking out files, or even mark individual files to
  23. be excluded or included!

  25. Backup Fugue uses compression to save space on the backup. The compression
  26. uses industry standard methods, and achieves both high compression ratios and
  27. speed.

  29. Backup Fugue can handle any number of hard disks, and any size hard disk
  30. (subject to memory constraints). The backup destination can be any size
  31. removable disk, including Syquest and Bernouli removable hard disks. The
  32. program can also backup across networks.

  35. BACKUP FUGUE QUICK START GUIDE

  37. To enable you to start backing up in the minimum time possible, refer to the
  38. file BUQUICK.DOC which will guide you through setting up and taking a backup.
  39. There is also a section describing how to restore your data if necessary.

  41. For those of you who don't want to read even that file, assuming you want to
  42. backup your hard disk C:
  43.  
  44. If you have a 286 or better, type in:
  45.   BU386 C:
  46.  
  47. If you have only an XT, type in
  48.   BU4D C:
  49.  
  50. If you want to use a destination drive other than A:, press Alt C followed by
  51. B and type in the destination drive.

  53. Press F5 to start the backup. Make sure you have a plentiful supply of disks
  54. on hand.

  83. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

  85. As issued by Fugue Software, the disk is self installing:
  86. Place the disk in drive A: or B:, and make that the default drive by typing
  87. on A: or B: and pressing Enter.

  89. Type in INSTALL.
  90.  
  91. Select the destination drive letter and directory to install into, press
  92. Enter, and the program will be installed automatically.

  94.  BBS Files
  95.  ─────────
  96.  If you have the BBS version of Backup Fugue, then all you received was
  97.  the file BUPRO.ZIP or BUPRO.EXE, and all the files have been
  98.  archived into this file. In this case you need to extract all the
  99.  files to either your hard disk or your floppy disk before you can
  100.  run SETUP:

  102.  From DOS, make a new directory for the program. Then copy the file
  103.  to your hard disk and extract the files:
  104.  
  105.     for .ZIP     type in     PKUNZIP -E  BUPRO
  106.  
  107.     for .EXE     type in     BUPRO
  108.  
  109.  Once you have extracted all the files, you can delete the BUPRO archive
  110.  file from your hard disk.

  115. Shareware
  116. ─────────

  118. Shareware is an exciting marketing method which allows you to try top quality
  119. software before you pay the author. With shareware, you cannot be disappointed
  120. spending money for a program that's not right for you.  The small fee you pay
  121. for the shareware copy covers only the duplication and distribution costs, and
  122. permits you to evaluate the program.

  124. If your copy of Backup Fugue didn't come with a printed manual, then you have
  125. the shareware version.  If you continue the use the shareware program after a
  126. reasonable evaluation period (we allow 42 days) you must register the program
  127. by sending Fugue Software the registration fee described below. Please refer
  128. to the file ORDER.FRM for more information on the registration fee. If you
  129. have a local agent, they will have modified the ORDER.FRM file to reflect
  130. local prices.

  132. This payment entitles you to technical support, printed manual, bonus programs
  133. and more.  Your payment supports the authors, allowing us to continue writing
  134. newer and better shareware programs.

  136. Shareware versions may be freely copied and given to others, provided all the
  137. files are copied, and the recipient is made aware that the programs are
  138. shareware, and informed that they are required to pay the registration fee if
  139. they use the program past the evaluation period.

  141. Fugue Software is a member of the Association of Shareware Professionals, and
  142. this program complies with the standards of the Association. This is your
  143. guarantee of receiving a quality program.

  145. Registered versions are "fully paid up" copies of a program. Normally they
  146. come with printed documentation. As a general rule, they may not be copied or
  147. shared around for evaluation - that is the purpose of the shareware version.
